Generics key to improving Australian economy

Government should support generics industry

Government, generic drugs, generics, policy, pharma, biotechnologyBoth the Medical Journal of Australia and the Australian Generic Medicines Industry Association are in agreement that the government could make substantial savings by adopting policies that promote the usage of lower cost generic medicines, the pharma letter recently reported.

Basic requirements to capitalise on these savings are for generics to be prescribed more often, and also the pricing system to be improved.

Kate Lynch, Chief Executive of the Generic Medicines Industry Association stated that she believed consumers should be incentivised to choose generic options.

Generic medicines will be one of the major topics explored at the BioPharma Australasia Convention, to be held in Sydney from 23-24 August 2012.  Visit the website for more information.
