What role can automation play in the identification of the best cell line?

This question was addressed by Anne Tolstrup, Head of Cell Culture II at Boehringer Ingelheim, at the 2012 Cell Culture World Congress.  During her presentation Anne posed the following questions- "what are the limiting factors of existing early predictive tools?" and "could the use of automated platforms in the identification of rare- high-producing cell lines allow better efficiency in identifying the right clones?".

Anne also went on to discuss the importance of considering the downstream processes from the beginning to improve process efficiency.
